About Me

This is very, very out of date.  I’ll update it when I have time!

Who is Lock Mommy?

And why the hell would anyone call herself “Lock Mommy”?

Well, my kids call me “Mommy” and I work for a BIG lock company as a door hardware consultant.  Yes, you heard that right.  I consult about doors.  I even have another blog where I talk about them all the time (here it is).  Feel free to visit if you’re having trouble falling asleep.

I am 48 years old, I live outside of Boston, and I have way too much going on in my life at all times.  I have 3 kids – Aliya-13, Adlani-10, and Norah-8.  I also have a husband – Ben, a cat – Wally, and a dog – Annie.  Despite how often I complain about each of my family members, I love them dearly and would walk across flaming Bananas Foster for them, so don’t take me seriously when I say that I have a kid for sale (they’re actually free).

I work a lot, volunteer a lot, sleep very little, and do just enough housework to keep Niecy Nash from showing up at my door.  I rarely say “no” to a plea for help (my downfall), I take on too much and then get overwhelmed, I haven’t found a good outlet for stress that I can squeeze into my schedule, I occasionally talk on the phone while I’m driving, and I don’t eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.  I’m honest to a fault, I’m too busy to look in the mirror, and I often laugh at things that other grown-ups find inappropriate.  I have TOTALLY AWESOME FRIENDS who keep me sane, and I wouldn’t survive the madness without them (you).

Before I had kids I loved traveling, photography, and making things (quilts, cross-stitch, jewelry, crocheting, etc.).  I still like those things but now I spend most of my time just trying to hold it together so hopefully I’ll get back to my hobbies later on.  My African safaris have been replaced with summer road trips for now, but when the kids get just a little older (and I stop paying thousands per year for preschool), I’ll show them the world.  I think it’s extremely important for them to see that not everyone lives like they do.  And they’re all bilingual (Spanish-English) so they can translate for me (“Dos cervezas, por favor!”).  My husband is originally from Morocco and he speaks Arabic, French, and English, which increases our options for travel destinations (“2 بيرز الرجاء” and “Deux bières s’il vous plaît!”).

Until I think of something else to say about myself, that’s it!

Thanks Katie! I noticed that I haven’t updated my About Me page in a while, since I’m turning 48 in a little over a week!

I’ll see you when you get back to SMA!
