#12of365 – Potbelly

Have I mentioned that I’m a door hardware consultant?  Who would ever think that the world needs consultants on door hardware??  It’s a little pathetic that this is my photo of the day…a potbelly door closer at Norah’s preschool…but what’s more pathetic is that my coworker/friend and I used to use these shields as badges and call ourselves the Closer Police.  We only did it at our desks, the Closer Police never made any actual arrests, but I still have my badge.  Citizens arrest!!

#11of365 – Unearthed

I’m doing some decluttering around the house again (still) and I just unearthed two of my old drivers’ licenses in a box that I haven’t touched since I moved to this house in 1999.  It’s hard to believe that official licenses were laminated like this – I could have made a fortune on fake IDs.  The freaky thing is…I remember the day I got the Vermont license because I stopped at the registry on my way to a meeting of the Door & Hardware Institute.  The other freaky thing is that I grew an inch when I moved to Massachusetts.  I’m feeling really old right now.

#10of365 – My Time

I’m working on a special door-related project which my company has allowed me to do “on my own time.”  When it’s done, it will be mine to do with as I please, and yes, I have that in writing Lana.  I work a really flexible schedule, as do all of the other specwriters in my office, so I have a hard time distinguishing between my time and company time.  Since today’s Sunday I’m going to assume that I’m on my own time and put in a few hours on my project.  I’m sure there’s some metaphoric significance to the fact that this broken clock inhabited by pigeons made me think of “My Time,” especially if you knew that this isn’t actually a clock tower, just two sides with the backs of the clocks exposed to the world, but if I take time to explore down that path I won’t get anything done.

#9of365 – Cool Effect

I thought this was a pretty cool effect…the icicles have melted and frozen a bunch of times and the position of the leaves and branches has changed due to the weight of the ice, so most of the icicles aren’t vertical.  I needed the porch railing to give it some perspective.  Would I have analyzed the icicles on my shrubbery if I wasn’t working on this project?  Doubtful.

#8of365 – Snow Day Prayer

Dear God, please give me the strength and patience to survive another snow day with 3 bickering kids cooped up in the house.  Protect us from failure of the internet, electricity, and battery power that supply our multitude of electronic entertainment devices.  Assist me in finding something to serve for lunch, since the pizza man has suspended delivery service for the duration of the storm.  Protect the clients that I speak to on the phone from overhearing inappropriate words exchanged during Lego-related arguments, and guide me to hide in the closet before answering calls from those who may influence my future career opportunities.  Help me to complete my work, enjoy my family, and catch up on the laundry, and ensure my husband’s safe journey home ASAP.  Amen.
