Fireworks!

We hooked Norah up with my heavy duty earplugs (which I usually use to block out the bickering in the car) and went to the fireworks at Old Sturbridge Village tonight.  We enjoyed them but it was kind of odd not to know anyone in the crowd, when in the ‘Ham we’d know at least 50 people.  The night ended with us on an “adventure” (lost) walking down a dark road looking for our car.  We were headed the right way but since Ben is afraid of the dark he had begun to panic and blame our certain demise on me.  Luckily we were rescued by a troop of OSV staff in bonnets and headlamps.

Hope you had a safe and happy 4th, and enjoy the long weekend.

And in case you missed the fireworks…

Feast and Fire

Yesterday we went to the Feast and Fire celebration on the Sturbridge Town Common, which is about 15 minutes from our camp. We didn’t partake of the feast (we were full of fried dough and ice cream), and we didn’t stay late enough for the (bon)fire but the kids had a great time with all of the activities.  Well, except for Norah, who is afraid of sirens, clowns, musket-fire, motorcycles, and the Grand Marshal Pig (who knew?), but whose mood improved when someone mentioned “firecrackers,” because she thought they were edible.

Just My Luck

Tomorrow we’re scheduled to begin our two-week vacation, so it’s no surprise that the washer broke just as I started the first load of the gigantic mound that accumulated while I was in Maine.  I was very lucky to get GE to send a service tech tomorrow, but since he’s coming sometime between 8 and 5, I get to hang around the house all day waiting for him to show.  I guess that makes this the optimal day for my car to start making a horrible creaking sound.  I just left it at Firestone since I’ll be housebound tomorrow anyway.

So now I’m wondering what Bad Thing #3 is going to be, since everyone knows that Bad Things happen in 3’s.  The garbage disposal stopped working last weekend, and today I noticed that the toilet has a problem.  So that’s 4 broken things.  Does that mean that I have 2 more broken things coming in the days ahead?  Or maybe there were other broken things that made the garbage disposal #3 and the toilet, washer, and car are another 3-some.  The dryer was broken but when the service guy came it turned out to be lint in the animal screen on the vent, so that’s only a Bad Thing if you consider paying a guy $80 to take the lint out of your screen a Bad Thing. Maybe the kids broke something and hid it from me, or maybe Bad Thing #3 was when someone peed in my bed this morning.  That really sucked.

I guess I could hide under the covers (now clean and dry) and worry about what Bad Thing #3 is, or do what I usually do and press on, oblivious to the fact that a black cat crossed my path right before I walked under the ladder and right after I stepped on a crack.  I’ll be watching for Bad Thing #3 but until it hits, there’s a half-pint of Ben & Jerry’s and a great book (The Help) calling my name.  Nightie-night all.

Lipstick

I don’t usually participate in “Wordless Wednesday” (posting a photo that speaks for itself with no written words), but I really have no words for this video.  What else is there to say?
